2020 The Reception Disorders series originated from my collaboration on the project PPPortraits — a collection of written, photographic, and visual stories of people from different generations who are finding, or have already found, their own way out of an eating disorder. During the work on this project, the focus of the series expanded to include other themes: domestic violence and sexual violence. A frequent connection began to emerge between eating disorders and experiences of sexual abuse — where the disorder appears as a reaction, an attempt to cope with what has happened. In the case of sexual and power-based violence, this is a topic that has only recently begun to be spoken about more openly in the Czech Republic. It is still often downplayed and not taken seriously enough. Because it reaches into deeply intimate areas, it is naturally surrounded by silence. Yet speaking about it is essential — only then can the social discourse begin to change.
